Yoga Blocks
Yoga
blocks are not one of the items that most novices to the art of
yoga know much about. These blocks are used to help the yogi stand in
certain positions for extended periods of time. They can be made of
wood or plastic. The plastic blocks tend to be less expensive.
When looking for
yoga blocks, it is important to know exactly what you are looking
for. These blocks are usually about nine inches long and about six inches
wide. Most are also three or four inches tall. Yogis use these blocks
in a number of different positions, so the dimensions are important.
Usually those doing yoga only use one block at a time, but some beginners
find using two at once can be helpful in holding poses.
In many instances, as people start to get more and more comfortable
with their yoga positions, they use the yoga blocks less and less. Despite
this, they often turn back to using the blocks if they are trying to
introduce some new poses into their repertoires.
In addition to wood and plastic, yoga blocks can be made from foam,
cork or bamboo. The most important thing is that the yoga blocks need
to be sturdy enough to hold the yogi’s weight. If it cannot hold
the weight, the yoga practitioner runs the risk of being injured.
